Message from the President !

Well the budget has been ratified. What does that mean for Visitors Information Services? As you may remember, PECCTAC submitted the 2005 Visitor Information Services budget of $64,000. We received $50,000. The board has agreed to keep the Tourist Office hours the same as last year.

Dick Shannon, CAO, has suggested the County put out a request for proposal (RFP) for Visitors Information Services in 2006, 2007 and 2008. PECCTAC supports this initiative.

With a 65% increase in information packages mailed out to date, I can only hope this will be a bumper year for all businesses.

PECCTAC is attempting to save Canada Day fireworks. Rick Caruso, PECCTAC director, and I are working diligently to try to save the cancelled Canada Day fireworks in Picton. "You can't cancel Canada Day - that is not an option". Hopefully we will once again see the skies light up for the children on Canada Day.
Have a great and prosperous summer.

Sincere Regards, T. Rob Brown - President

General Manager's Report

See enclosed details on how your business can participate in this 100th Year milestone and celebration of a community icon.

It must be summer. We have 2 new faces in the Tourist Office. Stop in and say hello to Sarah Cobb and Tabitha Tilling. Sarah you will remember was here last season and has just finished her 12th year in high school. Tabitha is from Picton now going to McMaster University enrolled in French and Hispanic Studies. We are very fortunate to have you both.

It is that time again. Nominate your favourite business in the County! The Quinte Business Achievement Awards dinner is on October 21, 2005 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Trenton. This GALA Dinner is always an exciting event to attend plus you meet fellow business people from our neighbouring communities. You can submit your own business or another that you believe deserves recognition but don’t wait too long. The deadline for nominations is August. Assisted with the East Central Ontario Training Board and the Business Retention and Expansion survey. See write-up in newsletter.

Assisted with organization of a Familiarization (FAM) Tour for Travel & Tour owners through Prince Edward County. Thanks to everyone that helped to make this a great success.

Working with a National television production company interested in doing a drama series in Prince Edward County. Thank you to all the business owners that were contacted.

Attended an Economic Developers Networking meeting to keep abreast of issues and opportunities and to learn how communities can organize themselves to respond to change.

Submitted a funding application for the creation of a comprehensive fishing map. This project is through PECCTAC’s partnership with the Bay of Quinte Tourist Council.

Businesses be Prepared

Starting in June 2006 all telephone numbers will be 10 digits. This includes calling your next door neighbour. “Companies that use numerous telecommunications systems and devices should take the necessary steps to update their equipment right away. They cannot afford to wait until the last minute. Businesses should ensure that their 10-digit phone numbers appear on all administration and marketing documents,” states Johanne Lemay, telecommunications analyst.

PECCTAC Members.... it’s in your hands!!

By now, over 750 businesses in the County and many PECCTAC members have received the 2005 Prince Edward Business Survey.

This is your chance to provide your input and comments on important matters that affect your business and the entire business community. What are your business needs? What are your challenges? How should Prince Edward move forward to support the business community?

If you have received a survey, we hope you will take 15 minutes of your time to complete it and send it back in the return envelope. If you have not received a survey, it’s not too late. Simply contact us and we will provide a full survey package.

Remember...all surveys are confidential and will remain anonymous. A final report will be going to all levels of government and a public meeting will be held to present and discuss the findings. This is planned for September.

The final report, recommendations and issues will help us identify priorities for the business community and determine initiatives that the Chamber can endorse to assist our members and the broader, business community.

Everyone’s views are important, and together we will have a clear indication of the challenges and opportunities you see for doing business in Prince Edward.

Contact East Central Ontario Training Board to request a survey or for further information - (969-0720).
